Public can weigh in on Erin's proposed 600-unit subdivision this week

A public meeting will take place virtually and in person on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 3:00 p.m.

ERIN – Residents will have another opportunity to share their opinions about a 572-unit subdivision proposed for two properties on Eighth Line during a public meeting later this week.

As the town's site alteration bylaw prohibits and regulates the removal of topsoil, placing or dumping of fill and altering the grade of lands, the public meeting will discuss Mattamy (Erin) Limited and Coscorp's application to facilitate "a large-scale site alteration," including vegetation and tree removal and the stripping and stockpiling of topsoil on the properties.

Combined, the entire development covers 155 acres.

According to the report, the applicant is also requesting permission for site alteration to begin later this spring so tree removal can occur outside of bird nesting season.

Proposed for north of Dundas Street West and south of Sideroad 17, Mattamy wants to construct a "low-density community" with 192 single-detached residences at 5520 Eighth Line.

This will connect to Cosocorp's "low-and-medium-density community" with 426 single-detached and townhouse residences and a neighbourhood park planned at 5552 Eighth Line. The application also includes plans for stormwater management facilities.

The applicants are also working on subsequent planning application submissions to address the comments previously raised by the town, agencies, public and council during a public meeting in 2022

Staff will present a recommendation to council for consideration at a future date after the resolution of any outstanding issues.
