ERIN — Interim wastewater fees have been approved for residents living in the new Erin Glen Community to help offset the cost of managing their wastewater.
Approved by Erin council earlier this month, residents living in the new Erin Glen Community on Wellington Rd. 124 and Dundas St. E. will now pay $83.33 monthly or $1,000 annually, which will be remitted to the developer to "help offset their wastewater management costs."
Since the Erin Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility won't be operational until mid-2025, staff said the new fees are required to cover the cost of hauling sewage from the development's temporary holding tanks to the Orangeville Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Approximately 235 homes are anticipated to occupy the new community by the end of 2024.
These fees will not impact residents outside of the development.
The town will undertake a full wastewater rate study once staff know more about the wastewater system's capital and operating expenditures.
