Chris Harrow, township's director of fire services, informed council of the purchase of a new 2022 pick-up truck.

The Wellington North Fire will be getting a new fire pick-up truck as the township council approved the purchase for $46,709.

At Tuesday’s virtual meeting, Wellington North council awarded the purchase to Leslie Motors Ford at a cost of $46,709 plus taxes.

Chris Harrow, township’s director of fire services, submitted a report on the new pick-up truck which informed council that the request for quotation was done in conjunction with Centre Wellington who took the lead on the process.

Centre Wellington Fire was looking for two pick-ups and an SUV. Minto Fire also joined in the process as they were also looking for one pick-up truck.

The three bids received were from Leslie Motors, Barry Cullen Chevrolet and Winegard Ford. Winegard Ford placed their bid in error and sent a correction after the process had closed. All prices submitted are for the pick up truck only, and no fire department specific options have been quoted.

Leslie Motors Ford bid $46,709; Barry Cullen Chevrolet bid $46,673.07; and Winegard Ford bid $54,380.

The fire pick-up truck was approved in Wellington North’s 2022 capital budget which had a budget of $50,000 for the purchase.

“We believe by going with the Leslie Motors bid, we will make up the approximately $60 difference in travel time for maintenance and any warranty work that may need to be completed in a timely and efficient manner,” stated Harrow in his report.

Harrow also noted during the meeting that there is no delivery time as many of the dealerships are experiencing backlogs and delays with products.

“We’re expecting a six to eight month delivery time; anything before that will be a bonus but that’s why a lot of bidders did not bid because they can’t get suppliers,” he said during the meeting.
