FERGUS – The Fergus Grand Theatre will remain closed for the rest of 2020.
Eric Goudie, theatre coordinator, confirmed this in an email newsletter today after deliberation on a safe opening with senior management at the Township of Centre Wellington.
“We take this decision with heavy hearts and a keen awareness of the vital role that the arts in general and the theatre in particular plays in our community,” Goudie said in the letter.
Goudie said that this is a challenge across the industry as many performing arts centres in Canada remain closed or are operating at reduced seating capacity.
The letter touched on hope for the future and an assurance that the theatre will not be closing for good.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel,” Goudie said.
“Our industry is coming together like never before, joining forces to ensure that performing artists, and the venues they play in will still be around when it’s safe to gather in large numbers once again.”
Most shows planned for this fall are in the process of being rescheduled to 2021 and those with tickets are asked to be patient as they settle on new dates.
Those interested are asked to check the website to see what’s coming in 2021.
“There are some very exciting projects on tap for next year,” Goudie said.
