Would-be thief fled east end home after entering basement

Police are investigating an apparent attempted break-in at an east end home that was recently listed for sale.

Officers responded at about 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday after a man reported he was lying on the couch in the living room when he heard a bang from the basement.

When he investigated, the caller said he found wet footprints on the floor and a torn screen.

“He believes the intruder heard him upstairs and fled back out the same window,” states a police news release. “The incident remains under investigation.”
