A mom and son locked themselves in a bedroom and waited for police after watching from a second-floor window as a stranger walk into their home, police say.
Just before 7:30 p.m. on Monday, police received several calls about a man yelling in the area of Waterloo and Hearn avenues. The mom and son, 13, were watching and saw as the man approached their house; they heard him come inside.
According to police, the residents could hear the man yelling and walking around the house. Officers arrived minutes later, entered the home and saw the man walking down the stairs from the second storey.
A 51-year-old Guelph man is charged with break and enter, as well as breaching a probation order.
