A couple of Guelph drivers had their licences temporarily suspended on Saturday after blowing a ‘warn’ during roadside breath tests.

The three-day suspensions were handed out during a RIDE spot check that saw 550 vehicles pass through, according to a Guelph police release.

A ‘warn’ is registered when breath testing indicates a blood-alcohol content level of between 50 and 80 mgs in 100 mls of blood or anything above zero for novice drivers.

Police also allege one driver had readily available cannabis and was charged under the Cannabis Control Act. Several Highway Traffic Act offences are also alleged, including for failing to wear a seatbelt and driving while using a handheld device.

“The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly,” states the release. “Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.

“Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.”
