It was no doubt a costly reminder about leaving valuables in your vehicle.

Guelph police said a vehicle thief nabbed a wallet from a vehicle left overnight, and spent nearly $500 using the stolen cards.

Police said the victim, an Elora resident, left his vehicle at a friend’s house near College Avenue West and the Hanlon to take a taxi home. His wallet was left inside the vehicle.

Early Sunday morning, the victim’s phone began to receive notifications of his cards being used.

Eight transactions were completed before the victim got the cards cancelled.
