Chancellor's Way was packed for Homecoming, with thousands of students partying on the street.

An Etobicoke male reported being stabbed during festivities related to University of Guelph’s Homecoming on Saturday.

It was the lone major incident reported during the Saturday festivities.

Guelph police said the male was not a University of Guelph student.

Just after 9 p.m. Saturday the male approached an officer and reported he had been stabbed in the abdomen during an altercation with unknown people. He was sent to hospital for treatment.

The male approached the officer in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Chancellors Way.

The suspects were possibly a white male and a light-skinned Black male with black clothing and medical masks.

The Guelph Police Service (GPS) is investigating.

Anyone who witnessed the altercation or has any other information is asked to call Detective Constable Scott Biser at 519-824-1212, ext. 7131, email [email protected], leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.

There were no further major incidents reported.

GPS, Guelph Fire Department, Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service, City of Guelph Bylaw Enforcement and U of G Campus Safety Office all deployed additional resources for homecoming festivities.

Sections of Chancellors Way and Edinburgh Road South were closed from 4 p.m. until early morning as thousands participated in an unsanctioned gathering. Several Liquor Licence Act charges were laid and several people were sent to hospital due to intoxication.

At about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday fireworks were discharged in a crowd, though no injuries were reported.

Bylaw officers responded to over 40 noise complaints across the city between noon Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday.
