A Guelph man faces impaired driving and assault charges after a Guelph Police Service officer was kicked during an arrest Saturday night, Guelph police report.

Shortly after 10 p.m. police received a report of a possible impaired driver. A short time later the involved vehicle was located at an address on Woolwich Street with a man sitting in the driver’s seat. Officers spoke to the man and noted a strong odour of alcohol on his breath.

He was placed under arrest but while officers were trying to put him in their cruiser he resisted by struggling and refusing to put one of his legs inside the car. He was finally placed in the cruiser, but at the police station kicked one of the arresting officers. Breath tests revealed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
