A Guelph man faces impaired driving and weapons charges following a collision Friday evening right outside the Guelph police station.
Approximately 7:35 p.m. an officer was parked near Wyndham Street South and Fountain Street when he heard a collision and observed a vehicle which had skidded off the road and struck a stop sign.
The officer spoke to the driver and detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside breath test the man was taken inside, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
During a search incident to arrest a spring-assisted knife was located in the man’s pocket. A 27-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon, careless driving and novice driver having alcohol in his system. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was seized for seven days.
