'Significant' smoke damage to Waterloo Ave. apartment unit

Guelph police and fire officials are investigating a fire that caused significant smoke damage to a Waterloo Avenue apartment on Saturday.

Just before 7 p.m. Saturday, police were asked to assist the fire department at an apartment near Waterloo Avenue and Beechwood Avenue. A mattress fire had caused significant smoke damage to the unit and caused the temporary evacuation of a neighbouring unit while it was ventilated and underwent minor repairs. No physical injuries were reported.

The fire is considered to be suspicious in origin and remains under investigation.
