A Kitchener man faces impaired and dangerous driving charges after being involved in two separate collisions Friday evening.

Approximately 6:30 p.m. another motorist was stopped at a red light just west of Guelph when his vehicle was struck by a driver attempting to pass on the shoulder. The victim followed the other vehicle and motioned the driver to pull over and exchange information, however he fled at a high rate of speed towards Guelph.

At the intersection of Speedvale Avenue West and Elmira Road North the suspect ran a red light, hitting another vehicle at high speed and causing debris to strike another vehicle, causing minor damage.

Officers spoke to the suspect and detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing revealed he had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 27-year-old Kitchener man is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
