The two newest members of the Guelph Police Service were officially welcomed aboard Wednesday, receiving their badges during a socially-distanced ceremony at the police station.
Constable Ryan Horvat and Constable Emily Richardson will report to their respective platoons on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021.
“On behalf of Chief Gord Cobey and the Police Services Board, chaired by Robert Carter, we are excited to welcome these two great additions to the Guelph Police Service,” said Deputy Chief Daryl Goetz. “Both candidates excelled in their academic Studies at the Ontario Police College and we are proud of their accomplishments. We look forward to their service to the City of Guelph and the added strength they will bring to the community.”
While COVID-19 restrictions meant it was not a traditional badge ceremony, both recruits had family members present, including Aylmer Police Service Chief Zvonko Horvat, who attended in uniform to personally present his son’s badge.
Justice Lorelei Amlin of the Ontario Court of Justice presided over the ceremony virtually, while court clerk Ali Marshall attended in person to assist with swearing in the new constables.
