A Guelph man went from bad to worse when he passed a stopped school bus Monday while a police officer was trying to pull him over for speeding, say Guelph police.

At 3:10 p.m. an officer was patrolling on Arkell Road near Ridgeway Avenue when he clocked a vehicle travelling 71 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone. The officer conducted a u-turn with the intention of pulling over the car, and saw it speed past a stopped school bus actively unloading students with its stop sign activated.

The driver finally pulled over on Gordon Street just south of Arkell Road.

A 41-year-old Guelph man is charged with speeding and failing to stop for a school bus.
