A woman in her 20's is in hospital with serious injuries after she was struck by a vehicle this morning.

Guelph police were called to Edinburgh Road South, just south of Wellington Street at 8:25 a.m. Police say the woman suffered a head injury and is being sent to a trauma centre in Toronto.

It was initially reported she was heading to Hamilton, but police spokesperson Scott Tracey said she is being re-routed to the GTA.

The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene. Tracey said it's too soon to tell if charges are pending at this time.

Edinburgh Road is closed between Wellington and Water for the investigation.

It is expected to be closed for several hours. Drivers are asked to find an alternate route.

In a second incident this morning about 30 minutes after the pedestrian was struck, a call was made to Edinburgh and Waterloo.

Tracey said it wasn't a police call. He said someone had fallen off their bike and was injured. No vehicle was involved in that incident.
