Drug charges for Guelph man nabbed getting into a stolen vehicle

A Guelph man faces more than two dozen charges after he was arrested Thursday afternoon getting into a stolen SUV.

Approximately 3:30 p.m. Guelph police located a stolen Acura MDX in a parking lot on Fife Road after earlier spotting a male driving it.

Officers conducted surveillance on the vehicle and approximately 5:30 p.m. saw the man walking towards it carrying several bags. He was placed under arrest and the key to the vehicle was located in his pocket.

A search incident to arrest revealed a BB rifle and ammunition, more than 80 small packages of cannabis and hashish and eight identity documents and two credit cards in various names. Investigation revealed the man is bound by several court orders, including nine separate driving prohibitions.

A 28-year-old Guelph man is facing a long list of charges including two counts of possessing stolen property, eight counts of possessing an identity document, two counts of possession for the purpose of distributing under the Cannabis Act and nine counts of driving while prohibited. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
