Waterloo Regional Police say a male has been arrested in connection with an Amber Alert issued earlier this evening.

The alert was cancelled after the girl was found safe, according to police.

Police say at around 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a residence near Strasburg Road and Rush Meadow Street in Kitchener for reports of a break-and-enter and a missing person.

As a result, police issued an Amber Alert for a missing 14-year-old girl.

They also released her photo and description but provided few other details.

At 8 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police located the female safely out of the region, police say.

"A male has been placed under arrest and charges are anticipated," Waterloo Regional Police said tonight in a news release. "The investigation remains ongoing."
