A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving charges after a car struck a house early Sunday morning.

Approximately 2:30 a.m. police were called to Elizabeth Street and Huron Street. Investigation revealed a driver had lost control on a curve and left the roadway, striking two signs and the side of a house before returning to the roadway. He continued on Elizabeth Street before turning and parking the heavily-damaged vehicle on Morris Street. The house sustained approximately $15,000 in damage.

The driver was located approximately 40 minutes after the collision hiding in a backyard and had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. The male was transported to the police station, where tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 23-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, failing to report an accident and driving without insurance. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
