A Chatham man has been charged with criminal harassment for repeatedly calling a Guelph woman he found on social media.
On Tuesday a Guelph woman reported she had received approximately 80 calls from an unknown male. After declining many call attempts she answered but did not speak, prompting the caller to utter threats to attend her residence and harm her.
Officers called the male, who claimed he is a student in Windsor and provided a false address. On Thursday morning the 18-year-old from Chatham attended the Guelph Police station and was arrested for criminal harassment, uttering threats and obstructing police.
Investigation revealed the two are not known to each other and the man found the victim’s phone number on social media and began calling to see if she would answer.
