GUELPH POLICE SERVICE

The Guelph Police Service Board has a new vice-chair.
Local lawyer Ajay Sharma was elected to the position during the board’s monthly meeting on Thursday. Sharma was appointed to the board by city council in May, 2023.
He takes over the vice-chair position from provincial appointee Jane Armstrong, who stepped down from the position but will continue to sit as a member on the five-person board.
Sharma, the father of a young daughter, has practiced law since 2017 and moved to Guelph with his wife four years ago. He is the principal lawyer at Elevate Law Group and also serves the community as a member of the board at the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.
During Thursday’s Guelph Police Service Board meeting, lawyer Peter McSherry was elected to continue serving as the board chair for another year. Also Thursday the board voted to be known as the Guelph Police Service Board – eliminating the S from “Services” – in accordance with requirements under the new Community Safety and Policing Act.
