Chamber choir lovers in the Guelph and Elora area, your Valentine’s treat will be a little later this year, but it will be well worth the wait.

Mark February 23 on your calendar for an incredible afternoon concert featuring two award-winning chamber choirs: the Elora Singers and the Vancouver Chamber Choir, at Guelph’s outstanding Basilica of Our Lady.

“We are absolutely thrilled to present this extraordinary afternoon of choral masterpieces,” said an Elora Singers spokesperson.

They continued, “It’s an opportunity to experience two Juno-nominated choirs: The Elora Singers led by Artistic Director Mark Vuorinen and the Vancouver Chamber Choir with Artistic Director Kari Turunen, performing a special program of gorgeous choral music in the splendour of the Basilica of our Lady in Guelph.”

The Elora Singers, as music lovers throughout Canada and beyond are well aware, has established an international reputation as one of Canada’s finest professional choirs. The Grammy- and JUNO-nominated ensemble is renowned for its diverse styles and recognized internationally for its rich, warm sound and clarity of texture.

The Vancouver Chamber Choir is Canada’s longest running professional choir, according to the spokesperson. The Vancouver Chamber Choir ranks among North America’s best professional choruses and has been honoured with the Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence by Chorus America.

The program for the afternoon is diverse and rich, with music by composers Laura Hawley, Frank Martin, Anton Bruckner, Nicholas Kelly, Ivo Antognini, and Ēriks Ešenvald.

Of particular note is the inclusion of the Kyrie and Agnus Dei from Frank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir. This will highlight both choir’s tonal expertise and extraordinary sound in the best possible way.

“We really couldn’t be more excited to present this extraordinary afternoon of gorgeous music,” exclaimed the spokesperson. “The harmonious blend of two of Canada’s premiere choirs, presenting a diverse repertoire in the stunning acoustic of the Basilica of our Lady, Guelph?
