Guelph police are investigating after a break-in at a south end business resulted in more than $37,000 in theft and damage.

They report that Tuesday morning police were called to a business on Southgate Drive. Staff had arrived to work after the weekend and noticed a gate had been cut open and a large amount of copper wire had been removed.

A review of video surveillance revealed someone had tampered with a rotating security camera in the yard approximately 7:40 p.m. Sunday, causing it to remain static and pointing away from the area of the theft.

Thieves cut a hole in the fence and removed several tree branches and shrubs to provide access for a vehicle. Nearly 500 metres of copper wire with a value of close to $16,000 was stolen. As well more than $21,000 in damage was done to several transformers.
