The longest-serving coach in the history of the Guelph Gryphons men's hockey program is hanging up the clipboard.

Shawn Camp has announced his retirement, which took effect April 30.

The 62-year-old Camp has been with the Gryphons for 16 seasons, dating back to the 2007-08 OUA campaign. The Gryphons won two OUA championships in that time, including a triple-overtime thriller in the 2020 Queen's Cup final.

He was the head coach of the Guelph Storm for its 2004 OHL championship, and won a Memorial Cup in his lone season as an assistant coach with the Hull Olympiques in 1997.

Camp also served as head coach with the OHL's Sarnia Sting and was an assistant coach with the Saginaw Spirit.

The university's director of athletics, Scott McRoberts, said intercollegiate associate director Wally Gabler will oversee the program's day-to-day activities for the time being. Assistant coach Justin Stevens will report directly to him.

"The University of Guelph Department of Athletics has begun its search for the program’s next head coach and will be posted in the coming days," McRoberts told GuelphToday via email.
