As the winter chill starts to set in Guelph, there is already a sign that baseball season is right around the corner.
The Intercounty Baseball League released its 2024 schedule Wednesday morning.
The Guelph Royals will play a 42-game schedule, including 21 at Hastings Stadium.
The home opener is scheduled for Sat. May 18 at 1 p.m. against Toronto, a day after opening the regular season on the road in Hamilton.
Games at Hastings Stadium will be primarily on Saturdays once again, with 13 games.
The Royals have six home dates scheduled on Tuesdays and one game each on a Sunday and Monday.
A couple schedule notables, the Monday game will be on Canada Day, as the Royals welcome Brantford.
As well, the Royals will welcome the expansion Chatham-Kent Barnstormers for the first time on July 27.
Because of the introduction of a ninth team, the nine teams will play an unbalanced schedule.
Guelph will play Kitchener and London six times (three home, three road), and the rest of the league five times.
Chatham-Kent, Hamilton and Brantford will play at Hastings twice, while Toronto, Barrie and Welland will play in Guelph three times. The schedule will reverse in 2025.
