SARNIA – Ryan McGuire raced down the left wing then cut in on net before tucking the game winner between the pads of Sarnia Sting goaltender Nick Surzycia to give the Guelph Storm a 4-3 overtime victory Wednesday night.
It was the fourth time in its last five games that Guelph has gone to overtime.
The game winner came after the Storm had killed off a penalty that started with 21 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Storm trailed by two goals on two separate occasions, including early in the first when goaltender colin Ellsworth was beaten on two of the first three shots he faced.
Carter Stevens, Lev Katzin and Max Namestnikov had the other Storm goals. Wil McFadden filling in on defence due to injuries and suspension, had two assists.
Ellsworth made 32 saves.
Next up for Guelph is a home game Friday against the Oshawa Generals.
