The Upper Grand District School Board is hosting virtual events for parents for the rest of the school year.
The Parent Engagement Events are a collaboration between the board and the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) to allow parents to engage with their childrens’ schools.
The Parent Engagement Events are set to take place on Jan. 28 March 4 and April 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
“All three upcoming PIC events will include a keynote, as well as a Q&A session for those in attendance,” said Megan Sicoli, administrative officer at the UGDSB.
The first event, Navigating Pathways and Understanding New Curriculum Expectations, will take place on Jan. 28 and will touch on the new math curriculum, Kindergarten, secondary destreaming, Grade 8 to Grade 9 transitions and transitions to post-secondary schools, apprenticeships and workplaces.
Parents can sign up for Jan. 28 here.
Sicoli said the PIC also plays the role of an advisory group for the board.
“For example, PIC provided input on the board’s re-entry model in elementary, which helped the board move from another massive reorganization model to more of a monthly wait list for families looking to change learning styles,” said Sicoli.
She said details about the other two events, Parenting for Student Success During a Pandemic on March 4 and Navigating Special Education on April 8, will be shared close to their dates.
