A couple of Guelph restaurants were temporarily closed recently for health and safety reasons. Both addressed the issues and reopened quickly.

Jacked Foods at 48 Victoria Road S., at the intersection of Elizabeth Street, was inspected by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health on May 24, according to Public Health’s Check Before You Choose website. Jacked Foods is self-described as a gourmet meal preparation service that delivers. It also has a storefront operation.

The business was cited for four critical infractions and three non-critical ones. It was found in violation of rules around adequate refrigerated space for hazardous food storage, and for not ensuring that all hazardous foods are stored at 4C or less. It also failed to ensure that food was cooled in a manner that minimizes the growth of pathogens. Jacked Foods reopened on May 30, a few days after the inspection.

Longstanding and popular Greek food restaurant Café Greek Garden at 497 York Rd., near Victoria Road, was forced to close its doors temporarily on May 30 after two critical infractions, both related to sanitary conditions.

It was ordered by public health inspectors to ensure its floors are kept clean and in good repair, that proper cleaning is carried out in certain areas of its kitchen, and that ceilings and walls are kept clean. Café Greek Garden reopened the following day on May 31.

The Check Before You Choose offers is a searchable site that offers data on the inspection history and record of eateries within the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health’s region.
