Former Guelph Storm star and NHL all-star Todd Bertuzzi will be attending the Kiwanis Sports Celebrity Dinner and Guelph Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony this year.
The event takes place May 17 at the Italian Canadian Club.
One of the inductees that evening is former Storm GM Mike Kelly. Bertuzzi was the first-ever draft pick of the Guelph Storm in 1991 and was selected by Kelly.
“Mike played a huge part in getting my junior hockey career started when he drafted me to the Storm,” said Bertuzzi, “He was a role model for myself and hundreds of players he drafted over the years into the OHL.”
After playing four seasons from 1991-1995 with the Storm, the Sudbury native played 18 seasons in the NHL with the Islanders, Canucks, Panthers, Red Wings, Ducks and Flames.
His nephew Tyler and son Tag would also play for the Guelph Storm.
Also being inducted will be Dave Vallance (fastball) and Evan Brill (hockey) in the builders category, while Elizabeth Waywell (marathon) and Kevin Auger (swimming) get nods as athletes.
Tickets are available online by visiting www.guelphsportshalloffame.com for $120 per adult and $50 for students 17 years of age and
younger.
