General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett announced today that the Storm have reached an affiliation agreement with the GOJHL’s Ayr Centennials.
The Ayr Centennials have been a successful, decorated, first-class organization for many years,” said Burnett. “My first experience with the Ayr organization was in 2016-17. They did an outstanding job developing a young 16 year-old Eric Uba who went on to play very successfully in the OHL. As they transition to the GOJHL, I am certain that under the leadership and guidance of Tim Barrie, Jeff Grimwood, and Cody Hall, the Centennials will continue to develop top young players, produce competitive teams and an exciting brand of junior hockey for the surrounding community to enjoy. We are excited to begin this partnership and to work together with such a strong organization.”
The Centennials will begin their inaugural season in the GOJHL in 2021-22, after purchasing the Kitchener Dutchmen and being promoted to Junior B. The Centennials will play their home games at the North Dumfries Community Complex.
“The Ayr Centennials are extremely honoured with today’s affiliation announcement with the Guelph Storm,” said Centennials General Manager Jeff Grimwood. “As a hockey club, we strive to create a positive environment, centered around a winning culture and player development and feel this affiliation with a top-level organization like Guelph further builds on these core strengths and values.”
Ayr’s Annual Red and White Scrimmage is tonight at 7:30 PM. The public is welcome to watch the scrimmage at the North Dumfries Community Complex.
The 2021 Guelph Storm Training Camp will begin on August 30th, with the OHL’s exhibition schedule getting underway on Labour Day weekend. The Storm kick off their 2021-22 OHL season on Friday, October 8th at Kitchener, and commence the home schedule the next night, Saturday, Oct. 9 vs. the Kitchener Rangers.
