Community members plan to rally outside city hall next week to protest the closure of Guelph’s safe consumption site.
“We picked up the call to join cities across Ontario who will rally on Feb. 25 to condemn the impending closure of CTS sites across Ontario, yet another attack on healthcare under the current provincial government,” a Facebook post about the rally states.
Guelph's safe consumption site located within the Guelph Community Health Centre, along with several sites across Ontario, is set to close on March 31, with HART Hubs opening in their place.
The rally will begin at 1 p.m. with speakers sharing stories in front of city hall, followed by a march to St. George’s Square for a vigil and moment of silence to honour lives lost and “the loss that will follow this policy failure.”
“Come together in community as we remind ourselves and each other that no one gets left behind, we take care of us, and as we honour the dead we will continue to fight like hell for the living,” the post states.
Attendees are asked to dress for the weather and wear masks.
