Holiday Inn plots return to Guelph with new six-storey hotel

Proposal would see hotel built on Imperial Road, on the same lot as Hampton Inn and Suites

Several years after the Holiday Inn brand left Guelph, its return is proposed … in a new spot.

Woodlawn Hospitality Group is looking to build a six-storey hotel with 152 guest rooms at its 725 Imperial Rd. N. property, north of Woodlawn Road and across from the Cineplex theatre.

That site is already home to a four-storey hotel run under the Hampton Inn and Suites banner, which is also owned by the group. The proposal calls for a currently-vacant section of the property to become a combined Holiday Inn Express and Candlewood Suites.

“The proposed development has been designed to integrate common parking areas and internal access roads with the adjacent four-storey hotel,” explains a planning justification report.

“The guest rooms are proposed to be comprised of 75 one and two bed units, and 77 one and two bed suites intended for longer-term occupancies.”

One parking space per guest room is proposed.

In order for the project to go ahead as-is, the owner has requested zoning bylaw amendment allowing an increased height (to six storeys from three storeys) and decreased parking for compact cars.

At this time, a public meeting on the proposal has not been set.

Previously, the Holiday Inn brand was found on Silvercreek Parkway North and Stone Road West, but neither of those buildings continue to operate as hotels.
