Circular thinking isn’t just good for the environment – it can also be educational, social and fun!

To demonstrate that point – and raise awareness about the benefits of circular thinking – the Guelph Tool Library is teaming up with the City of Guelph and other organizations to present a number of activities throughout the month of October.

“Circular Economy Month is an excellent opportunity to show people what circular economies can look like – and elevate some of the circular activities they may already be doing,” says Steph Clarke, communications and outreach coordinator of the Guelph Tool Library.

“We hope to create an accessible environment for learning about and engaging in a circular economy.”

October’s lineup of circular events will offer many fan favourites, including:

Saturday, Oct. 5 – Open House @ the Waste Resource Innovation Centre – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 5 – Repair Café @ The Guelph Tool Library – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 5 – Stitch Together @ Main Branch of the Guelph Public Library – 1 to 3 p.m.

Monday, Oct. 7 – Stitch Together @ The Guelph Tool Library – 6 to 8 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 17 – Sewing Machine Repair Workshop @The Guelph Tool Library - 7 to 9 p.m.

Members of the community will also have a limited-time opportunity to contribute to a new program – the Circular Computer Project, which runs until the end of the month.

“We’ve been working with businesses for the last year to support the Guelph-Wellington Digital Equity Coalition, which has allowed us to refurbish laptops that are then distributed by community partners to individuals who lack access to tech devices,” says John Dennis, co-ordinator of the project.

The Circular Computer Project will accept laptop donations from individuals on a case-by-case basis all week long, with a goal of collecting 25 devices that are less than 5 years old. Individuals who are interested in donating must fill out an intake form prior to dropping off their donation.
