Royals go down swinging in close Game 4 at Hastings Stadium

The Guelph Royals saw their season come to an end Tuesday night at Hastings Stadium.

The London Majors scored a run in the top of the 10th inning to come away with a 10-9 victory that gave them a sweep of their best-of-seven Intercounty Baseball League quarter-final series.

With two outs in the top of the 10, London's Chris McQueen walked then scored on a double by RJ Fuhr to plate the decisive run.

Guelph made it interesting in the bottom of the 10th, getting runners on second and third base with two outs, but Blake Kauer grounded out to end the game and the Royals season.

Alex Gowling took the loss in relief.

The Royals managed 14 hits in the game, including a four-for-five performance by Chandler McLaren that included a home run and a double. McLaren had four RBIs.

Aaron Loder had three hits and Matt Schmidt and Jeff MacLeod a pair.

London had eight hits, including a pair of doubles by Fuhr.

Guelph starter A.J. Mackey went six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven.

London now waits to see who it faces in the second round.
