On Saturday, Guelph Police Service received its third call within a week complaining of a male masturbating in public, but this call was different from the first two.
“The most recent one was a little bit weirder because he was on a bike,” said Const. Josh Fraser of the Guelph Police. “This is the third one here in about a week.
The incident was called in at about 6:51 a.m. on Saturday in the Eramosa Road and Delhi Street area.
The male is described as being white, in his 40s, fit looking, wearing a baseball hat with blond or red hair wearing a black and purple sport coat. The bicycle was red in colour.
It was the third incident reported by Guelph Police in less than a week.
In a June 18 press release, Police reported a heavy-set male in his 40s or 50s masturbating in Bristol Street and Surrey Street area.
Then, on June 21, Guelph Police were called to a trail on the Speed River near Edinburgh Road for a man in his 20s with a thin build masturbating silently.
“We always try to tell the public to be aware of their surroundings and not to be alone,” said Fraser of the June 21 incident on the trail.
Fraser said the three incidents do not appear to be related.
“It appears that it is different people, based on descriptions, however we are not 100 per cent sure on that,” said Fraser.
Police are taking the incidents very seriously and Fraser said they are being investigated by the department’s sexual assault unit.
“It is a crime that someone is doing this and if this does happen, people need to call police in an urgent matter so that we can attend to the area and possibly locate the person responsible,” said Fraser. “A 911 call is absolutely appropriate, because they are a victim of a crime.”
