Guelph General Hospital and the University of Guelph are combining forces in an effort to tackle health issues plaguing the community.
The two publicly funded bodies have signed a deal to set a framework to focus on a number of key areas, leveraging each other’s strengths to “overcome community challenges.”
The areas include enhancing research and development efforts, improving clinical care, supporting education and training programs for medical professionals and students, researchers and more.
A news release sent out by U of G notes it and GGH have a rich history of collaboration already, and are “uniquely positioned to address the challenges that are impacting the health of the community.”
U of G officials said the school is committed to solve health problems "that can't be easily addressed in traditional disciplinary silos."
In the release, they call the agreement “an important milestone for Guelph-Wellington as the organizations seek to positively impact community health and sustainability, foster innovation in healthcare delivery, and enhance educational programs.”
As part of the agreement, GGH is looking at student placement models, and has recently taken on six co-op students.
The plan is to work together to "shape future generations of community leaders through education, mentorship and hands on experience."
