Guelph artist Seth featured on new Canada Post stamp series

The series celebrates Canada's most influential graphic novelists

Canada Post has unveiled a new stamp series to celebrate Canada’s most influential graphic novelists, including Guelph artist Seth.

The series features four original works from artists including Seth, Chester Brown, Michael Rabagliati and cousins Jillian and Mariko Tamaki.

All five artists have “made significant contributions to the genre and continue a long line of Canadian storytellers honoured by Canada Post,” a press release states.

Graphic novels tell stories by interweaving words and drawings in panels, and can include anthologies, memoirs and other works.

“The five novelists honoured on the new stamps pushed the boundaries and elevated the form, leaving a mark on readers around the globe,” the press release states. This marks the first time Canada Post has featured the work created by Canadian graphic novelists.

Seth is known for his Palookaville comic series, which were featured in his first graphic novel, It's a Good Life, If You Don't Weaken. The series continued with his award-winning graphic novel, Clyde Fans, which was featured on 20 best-of-the-year lists including The New York Times, The Guardian and the Washington Post. It follows two brothers struggling to save their family business, peeling back the optimism of mid-twentieth century capitalism.

The artists collaborated with Canada Post to create original drawings of the main characters from their featured novels, engrossed in their own stories.

The issue includes a booklet of eight permanent domestic rate stamps and one Official First Day Cover for each novel.

The stamps and collectibles are available for purchase at post offices starting today and are available now for order on canadapost.ca.
