The Guelph Tool Library is looking for Guelphites with a green thumb – or those interested in developing one – to help out with their Marden-based community garden.
As the GROW Community Garden enters its 10th season, the tool library is looking for new volunteers to join their community of gardeners.
“Our volunteer-run project works to grow fresh, healthy produce for donation to local food security organizations,” said co-chair Caroline Prochazka.
“In exchange for participating in the shared project of planting, weeding, tending, harvesting and donating of fruits and vegetables, member gardeners may also hold a garden plot to grow vegetables for their own consumption,” she said.
The garden is located at the Grace Community Church on 7427 Wellington County Rd. 30, and operates from May through October.
Volunteers are asked to commit two hours per week to the donation gardens, and to help with start up and shut down of the garden at the beginning and end of the season with the work-bees.
Tools are provided and mentorship may be available for those with little experience.
Donations are often given to places like the Guelph Food Bank, the Centre Wellington Food Bank, Hope House and Chalmers Community Services.
