After initially gearing up for a strike, the University of Guelph Faculty Association has reached an agreement with the university.
The union represents around 850 members including faculty, librarians and veterinarians at the U of G.
The collective agreement was tentatively reached on Oct. 20, and has now been fully ratified on both sides.
Key issues for UGFA included concerns of burnout, work-life balance, time for scholarship work, more control over how they teach, and better recruitment and retention, among other things.
According to the U of G’s website, the new agreement will come into effect on July 1 and be in place until June 30, 2027 and “addresses key priorities for both sides, including workload and compensation.”
The two parties met around 20 times since the previous collective agreement expired at the end of June. The new agreement will be available online in the near future.
