An encampment fire off York Road and Watson Road North is being considered suspicious, officials say.
Twenty-two firefighters responded to two separate structure fires in an encampment in the woods Wednesday around 12:35 p.m. When they arrived, the two structures were fully engulfed in flames, said Guelph Fire Department deputy chief Steve Goode.
The structures were completely destroyed, but there were no personal injuries, he said. The fire was contained to the area by 2 p.m. and was out not long after.
Since it’s through a wooded area in a field, Goode said they had to use a four-wheeler with a tank to transport water back and forth from a hydrant.
Guelph police are currently on-scene conducting a joint investigation with Guelph Fire, and are looking for anyone who might have witnessed the incident or lives in the encampment.
