College and Edinburgh intersection work ‘on schedule and on budget’

Shut down since mid-May, that intersection is expected to open in late August, followed by other College Avenue closures

It’s two months down and one to go for the closure of a busy intersection – College Avenue and Edinburgh Road.

At this point, the initial phase of the College Avenue reconstruction project is “on schedule and on budget,”  Kyle Gibson, the city’s manager of technical services, told GuelphToday via email, meaning the intersection is on track to be re-opened in late August. “The City continues to encourage motorists to use the appropriately signed detours when travelling in the area.”

College Avenue West was shut down from Lynwood Avenue to Rodney Boulevard on May 21 to allow for the installation of underground and protected cycling infrastructure. That includes the intersection at Edinburgh Road.

Following that, efforts will continue east on College, with a closure between Rodney Boulevard and University Avenue expected to run through the end of the year.

The project is slated to continue next year, with phases between University and East Ring Road, as well as from Janefield Avenue to Edinburgh.

The collective cost of those three phases is budgeted at $15.2 million.

Additional information about the project can be found here on the city’s website.
