After more than a month of walking the picket line, employees at the Cargill meat facility are set to return to work on Monday.

Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Locals 175 and 633 narrowly approved a new contract agreement on Saturday afternoon. Sam Caetano, the UFCW’s regional director for Region 6, said the deal was approved with 52 per cent support.

At the request of Cargill, Caetano said he couldn’t release any additional details for now.

Roughly 1,000 workers went on strike on May 27 after employees rejected a tentative deal reached between Cargill and union officials. That deal was voted down by 80 per cent.

The latest agreement was tentatively reached on Thursday, followed by Saturday’s ratification vote.
