The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington has created a win-win initiative that has made a significant impact on the environment, while also supporting the needs of children and youth in the area.
The Trees for Tots program, which has been running for the last 11 years, has been a remarkable success in bringing together hundreds of volunteers to work towards a common goal.
By collecting discarded Christmas trees, Trees for Tots has saved over 30,000 trees from ending up in local landfills. The trees are chipped and used for walking trails at locations such as the Guelph Arboretum, the Ignatius Jesuit Centre, the Neighbourhood Group, Portage Elora, and local farms and community gardens.
In addition to benefiting our local environment and reducing our carbon footprint here in Guelph, the program has been especially successful in providing critical funds to support the delivery of programs through the Children’s Foundation.
Trees for Tots has also inspired a sense of community spirit that has been transformative for many involved, allowing volunteers to forge meaningful connections and develop a deep sense of pride in their community.
The Environment Award is presented to a person or organization who has had a positive impact on our environment, demonstrating to the rest of us what is possible in improving our community’s environmental footprint.
Congratulations to the Children’s Foundation of Wellington and Guelph's Trees for Tots!
