Community Builders Awards: Martha Rogers’ decades of work in public education leaves lasting impact on Guelph

Martha Rogers passed away in 2021, but her almost 50 years of work in the education sector has left a lasting and positive impact on Guelph

A passionate educator driven by her love for children, Martha Rogers’ devoted her life to public education and public service.

Martha passed away in December 2021, but her legacy lives on.

She is fondly remembered as a trailblazer in education who led by example and cultivated meaningful and genuine relationships with those she worked with. 

Among her many achievements in the education sector, Martha became the first female Superintendent of Special Services for the Wellington County Board of Education. 

When the Dufferin and Wellington boards amalgamated, Martha became director of the Upper Grand District School Board - a position she held for 26 years making her the longest serving Director of Education in Ontario.

In addition to work in education, Martha was an active member of the Rotary Club of Guelph for 30 years. She also sat on, led and supported countless community and education-related committees in an effort to make Guelph a better place for future generations.

The Legacy Award honours an individual posthumously who has created lasting change and measurable difference in our community through commitment and perseverance. This award pays tribute to the individual’s leadership, vision and ongoing legacy.
