For the last four years, a small local charity has been on a mission to rescue vulnerable felines in our area and find them a forever home.

Dorset Rescue Kittens was founded by Cailey Seymour, a registered veterinary technician with a love for animals.

After being involved with various animal welfare organizations and gaining experience with cat fostering, Seymour decided to establish an organization of her own.

At the time, she was living in Dorset, a rural community in Muskoka where there are very limited resources for animals in need, especially feral and stray cats. Seymour eventually moved the rescue to Guelph and continued to bring in cats from the Dorset area.

“Being a smaller organization in a big city full of animal lovers like Guelph, we are always on the lookout for more volunteers and adoptions,” Seymour shared.

“Animals don’t have a voice of their own and a lot of them don’t get the proper care - either outside or in a home,” she said. “We want to be their voice and eventually see them go home with a family that will love and cherish them for the rest of their lives.”

If you are considering adding a cat to your home, Dorset Rescue Kittens is hosting a Home for the Holidays Same Day Adoption event on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Petsmart (7 Clair Rd. West). Visitors will have a chance to meet their new forever friend and bring them home that same day.

“A lot of cat owners really love the quirks that their cat brings to their home along with the general companionship that animals typically provide,” Seymour said.

“When we deal with harder cases, like kittens that have come from really bad backgrounds, seeing them go from being on death’s door to the point of being ready for adoption is when we’re the proudest,” she shared.
