Wellington County COVID testing centre temporarily moving to former Groves Hospital Friday

Testing will resume Monday at the former hospital site in Fergus, which is a temporary location

WDG PUBLIC HEALTH – Wellington County’s COVID-19 testing centre is moving to the site of the former Groves Hospital from the Mount Forest Sportsplex.

Danny Williamson, communications specialist with WDG Public Health, confirmed by email that COVID assessment services will temporarily move to 235 Union St. E. in Fergus, the site of the former Groves Hospital in Fergus. 

The Mount Forest Sportsplex lease ends on Friday and is closing then. Testing and other COVID assessment services will resume at the new location on Monday. 

Hours of operation are the same as before with the testing centre open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Williamson said the service model will remain the same until plans are finalized for the fall. 

Kate Kobbes, vice-president of operations at the Wellington Health Care Alliance, said by email the staff will continue to share staffing resources between Mount Forest, Minto, Mapleton and Upper Grand Family Health Teams and county hospital staff.

According to the WDG Public Health website, the Mount Forest COVID-19 assessment centre has performed 2,249 tests with 16 confirmed positive cases from April 20 to Aug. 19.
