PUSLINCH — Staff are recommending council consider giving themselves a raise in 2025.
According to a presentation to be discussed in Puslinch council next week, while other elements are "generally comparable," both the mayor and councillors current remuneration are below the 55 percentile pay target and considered "low" to the defined pay market.
As a result, staff have recommended council considers increasing councillors' salaries by Jan, 1, 2025 to $21,468 and the mayor's salary to $40,928.
Puslinch mayor James Seeley currently makes $30,802 annually; each councillor makes $20,754.
"It is best practice to increase the annual base pay for elected official positions annually by the amount used to adjust the employee salary grid," said staff in the report. "This allows for a year-over-year increase to align with cost-of-living increases."
The report said pay rates for a mayor in the 55 percentile range from $27,478 to $51,874 while councillors range from $18,153 to $27,997.
The next salary review is scheduled for council's next term.
