MOUNT FOREST – A local developer wants council approval to construct a half-acre expansion on an existing apartment building on Main Street.

According to a new staff report, developer WT Land Corp has applied to rezone 391 Main St. N. in Mount Forest from industrial and main street mixed-use to main street mixed-use site-specific to facilitate a 10-unit, two-storey residential development beside an existing five-storey, 33-unit apartment building.

The application was subject to a public meeting in June where councillors raised concerns about buffering, the proposed 0.42 acre lot size, emergency vehicle access and encroachment on the existing apartments.

No residents spoke during the meeting.

Staff said the rezoning is a condition of a severance application granted provisional approval by the Wellington County Land Division Committee.

The application will be up for approval and discussion at a Wellington North council meeting on Monday.
