Guelph police have provided an update to the fatal fire that happened Saturday afternoon.
They say emergency services were called at 2:42 p.m. Saturday to a reported house fire on Mayfield Avenue, which is in a neighbourhood just southeast of the Gordon Street and Stone Road intersection.
Guelph Police officers arrived three minutes later to find the house fully engulfed and were unable to make entry.
The Guelph Fire Department arrived moments later and began fighting the fire. A male in his 90s was located deceased inside the residence.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation. The scene is being held by police pending the results of a post-mortem examination scheduled for today.
