Guelph police is making a bit of headway, but there is still work to be done to tackle increasing police overtime costs.
According to a report headed to the Guelph Police Services Board on Thursday, paid overtime is about $291,000 over its budget for 2024, as of Sept. 30.
It’s a bit lower than last year, when paid overtime was $344,000 over budget.
Police finished last year $822,000 over its paid overtime budget.
This year, banked and paid overtime hours is down by 3,740 straight time hours year-over-year.
Much like last year, police note overtime will present challenges for the final stretch of 2024 because of staff vacancies and major crime investigations.
